Jim's Special Edition Easy Listening Christmas Album

DAP102CD

First produced in 1995 to amuse and entertain friends, this collection of ditties creates an intimate portrait of James Warren in relaxed mode.  It is a must for those who admire the output of this fine song writer.

The Korgis and Stackridge can be found lurking here, along with a fine rendition of Bryan Wilson's 'Caroline, No' and an early demo of The Korgi's hit which returned to the charts in 1996 and again in June 2000 -  'Everyone's Got To Learn Sometime'.  Don't be deceived by the lighthearted presentation.  There is more to it than that.  Homage to some of the recent masters of popular song is part of the remit.  Besides the obvious reference to Messrs McCartney, Lennon and Wilson, watch out for Messrs Simon and Harrison lurking in the background.

James Warren first emerged on the musical scene in the early ‘70s as part of that essentially English musical group - Stackridge. Quirky, amusing, cleverly-crafted songs were his trademark then, earning Beatles comparisons for the band and attracting the attention of Beatles producer, George Martin, who produced Stackridge’s third LP, "Man In The Bowler Hat".

Real pop success finally caught up with Mr Warren in the 1980s, as one half of the mainstream pop duo, The Korgis. First reaching chart prominence with "If I Had You", the second Korgis’ album in 1980 spawned the hit 'Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime'. Written by James, it appealed to all age groups, reaching No 5 in the UK and No 18 in the USA, returning to the charts in 1996 and again in 2000. With the success of The Korgis, Mr Warren acquired an ardent following of fans, not just in the UK but in Europe, America and  Japan, who remain fascinated with his output.

Released on Dap Records ( Stackridge’s own record label) "Jim’s Special Edition Easy Listening Christmas Album" is essentially a collection of demos, initially produced for friends and colleagues to mark Christmas 1995. This CD is a must for Korgis and Stackridge fans everywhere. The musical morsels on offer illuminate The Korgis and contain the seeds of the re-emergence of Stackridge, which was shortly to come in 1999 with the well-received new CD, "Something For The Weekend" (also available on the Dap Label). The characteristics of Jim’s song-writing are all present. Note the fine lyrical quality and the strong melodic lines. Note also the skill with which he pays homage to Messrs Harrison, Simon, Wilson and Lennon – to name but a few of his heroes of popular song.

A powerhouse of imagination and creative energy, James Warren has the ability to draw you into his own individual universe.  Whether in Stackridge or more mainstream Korgis mode, James expresses every sensitive and thinking man's dreams and yearnings.  The sense of innocence is still alive, along with the wry irony and humour that is evoked when the real world invades the dreamer's private space.
